So of those of you who don’t know, or don’t remember, Iowa got rocked by storms last June. Houses and Business were destroyed, tens of thousands of people were displaced. Shitty.
The University of Iowa (UI) suffered $232 million dollars in damages. Six of the Seven art studio where thrashed, one filled with 8 feet of water. They were able to get most expensive eqiptment out before shit really hit the fan (and save Jackson Pollock’s Mural 1943)

Jackson Pollock - Mural - 1943
Desperate for a place to house hundreds of art student from many different focuses (many of which lost original pieces and portfolios) UI looked to a recently vacated Menard’s Hardware store (like Home Depot).

This is obviously a awesome story. But I also think this new trend of converting large spaces like this or warehouses is so cool. A lot of people are buying warehouses and turning them into houses, studios and businesses. So sick.
